Welcome to Simoonga School!

About the school

Simoonga Thandizani Trust School is a non-profit charity school providing free basic quality education to about 400 rural boys and girls. The school is located in Simoonga Village, 15 kilometers west of Livingstone City, Home to the Mighty Victoria Falls. There is overwhelming poverty in the village and most families are unable to afford the school fees required to attend the local government school.

As a result, Thandizani School was founded as a community charity based initiative project to provide free basic quality education to the underprivileged and orphaned children. The name Thandizani was chosen because it means help or support. This means that the school needs help from well wishers in order to make it possible for the children to receive free quality learning that will make it possible for the children to have meaningful and productive  lives as adults.

The school was established in 2015 in a modest structure with one teacher and 40 preschool children. Today the school has nearly 400 students ranging in age from 3 to 16, they are spread among 10 classrooms ranging from preschool to grade 7. Each class has between 30 to 40 girls and boys learning together.

Our school follows the Zambian National curriculum, but do not receive any financial or material support from the government.  We are funded solely by donations from visitors and other well-wishers.

An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.
